The Green Fleet event is to
encourage novice sailors to attend their first Optimist regatta and to encourage
future optimist racing. This event is for those sailors that do not have race
experience. Please do not sent sailors that have previous racing experience.
Awards will be given out to every sailor that participates.
Sail numbers must be
complete and clearly visible from both sides of the sail. Boats with incorrect
or illegible sail numbers may not sail in the regatta. This information needs to
be entered on the online registration.
Equipment and Safety Requirements
A safety inspection of all
boats may be carried out prior to sailing per the Optimist Class rules. In
accordance with JSA rules, all Optimists must be equipped with the following:

Flotation meeting Optimist Class
rules (three air bags inflated properly secured to boat
·
Life jacket and whistle
·
Paddle
·
Bailer tied to boat
·
Buoyant bow painter for tow line
25 feet in length tied to mast step, with a bowline loop tied in the free end
·
Dagger board secured to the boat
·
Mast securely attached to boat
with retention line
·
Main sheet bridle to not allow
more than 4” between bridle and boom
·
Life jackets shall be worn and
correctly fastened at all times while on the water
Any club entering three or
more boats shall supply a support craft equipped with a VHF radio, and anchor
and a first aid kit. The adult who shall be driving the support craft will check
with the race committee about safety patrol assignments and responsibilities.
The entry fee includes a
light snack and either a hamburger or hot dog lunch. If alternative provisions
are needed for an individual sailor it is their responsibility.
Responsibility for Safety
As a condition of
participation of any boat in any race or related activity sponsored or
undertaken by the Roton Point Club: the owner and the helmsmen of each boat
agree that the safety of the boat and the helmsman and the decision whether or
not to start or continue to race is solely his/her responsibility, and each
waives all claims which he or she or any heir, representative, successor or
assignee, may have against the Roton Point Club and the JSA, and their officers,
trustees, members, committees, employees or agents, arising out of or in any way
connected with participation in such race or activity. Responsibility for
evaluation wind, sea and weather conditions rest with each participant, as does
the responsibility for the safe condition of each boat including safety
equipment and rigging and for wearing a life jacket. Assistance from the race
committee, patrol boats, or other support boats and from personnel manning them
is at the risk of the participant.
