Byrnes win Stamford Denmark

Six RPSA catamarans participated in the Stamford Denmark friendship Race on Sunday September 10, 2006, organized and run by Stamford Yacht Club.  They sailed Course #1 of 10.9 miles, with winds that got increasing tricky as the race went on.

Finish places, based on Portsmouth corrected times, were as follows:

Posn  Skipper    Elapsed Time  DPN   Corrected Time

(1st)  Byrne         2:12:50        64.3     3:26:35

(2nd)  Keyworth    2:15:30        64.3     3:30:44

(3rd)  Simmons     2:11:43        61.5     3:34:10

(4th)  Romans      2:15:05        62.6     3:35:47

(5th)  McGarry      2:25:57        67.0     3:37:50

(6th)  Smith         2:21:31        64.3     3:40:05

Note that the scoring for Bud and Liz McGarry has been changed from that shown in the Stamford YC results, which had their Portsmouth yardstick number wrong.  In the table above they have been given the Hobie 21 (no spinnaker) number.

So although Kevin Simmons and Marty Roth sailing PL3 were the first boat home, Greg and John Byrne beat them on corrected times.   This race seems jinxed for the Byrnes - last year the crash, and this year John ended up in hospital with a dislocated shoulder!

Alan Keyworth and crew John Pullan came third, followed by Chip and Kelly Romans, with Mike Smith and Pax Gifford bringing up the rear.  After over two hours of sailing, the whole catamaran class finished within a 15-minute window.  Thanks to Tom Talbott for single-handing Impatient Lady as support boat.

Our multi-hull fleet passed every one of the 34 monohulls that started on Course #1, some as much as 30 minutes before our start.  Go cats go!
