Hambone Race
Each year the Fourth of July sees the "everything that floats"
Hambone race, open to sailboats, kayaks, canoes, rowboats, and the
occasional bathtub. Sailors are happy to accommodate as many crew as the
boat will take and all who participate get tickets for the raffle of
merchandise after the race.
Stamford Denmark Friendship Race
The
Stamford Denmark Friendship Race, sponsored by the
Stamford
Yacht Club, the Royal
Danish Yacht Club and the
Consulate General of
Denmark, has been, from its inception, a day-race for racing
cruisers 21 feet and over. It has become one of the largest such events
of its kind in the world, one year attracting more than 300 boats to its dual
starting lines. In 2001, a multihull class was added.
The traveling trophies are of
Danish origin and are considered among the most unique in the world, the
most recent being the Sanna & Victor Borge Cup, commemorating their
dedication to the race from its inception more than 37 years ago, and
the Nancy & Ronald Borge Multihull Cup. The latter was won in 2007 by previous “Little America’s Cup” winner
Patient Lady 3 from Roton Point
Sailing Association.
This year's race will take place on September 7,
2008.
