Boating at Roton Point

The Precision 15 is available for those who enjoy dinghy sailing
Moon & Tides This Week's Sailing Calendar

Areas of RPSA Responsibility

RPSA has general responsibility for the upkeep of boat storage areas, the docks and ramps, the winch, the flagpole, and the observation deck. It maintains four power boats:
  • The 26' "Flat Top" pontoon boat is used primarily by the race committee and also by the sailing school instructors,
  • The 21' Mako center console launch "Impatient Lady" serves as the main racing support boat, and
  • The 18' Maritime skiff and 10' inflatable dinghy are used primarily by the sailing school instructors.

These are the only power boats permitted to use the sailing bay and the docks.

Waterfront Assistant

Paul [?] will be on duty this summer on Thursday and Friday evenings, Saturdays and Sundays with the primary task of promoting recreational sailing, ensuring the safe use of club-provided boats, and supporting RPSA racing programs. Paul can be found in the sailing area, and will be pleased to provide aid and advice.

Boat Berthing

Boats kept at Roton Point must be parked in a designated berth and must bear a valid permanently-numbered registration sticker.

Launching Dollies

Many boat owners have private dollies. There are also club-owned catamaran, Optimist, Laser/Sunfish, and kayak dollies for general membership use.

Take Care with the Winch!

The RPSA winch is a combination of commercial and custom-made hardware. It has an electric motor-driven drum with 125 feet of cable capable of a pulling force exceeding 3,000 pounds. The basic winch has been supplemented with safety covers, dual deadman on/off controls and cable spooling guides. Great care should be taken to keep hands and clothing well clear of the moving parts when using the winch.

Sailing

Sailing at Roton Point is pretty much a "do it yourself" activity. Boats are transported to the sailing beach on dollies, which may not be left on the beach itself. On return, boats should promptly be removed from the beach if others need the beach space.

Kayaking

Interest in kayaking at Roton Point has increased over the last few years, proving there are people who believe in exercise as opposed to letting the wind do the work! A "Kayak Fun Day" is scheduled for July 21st —more details to follow.

Club Boats

A Trac 16 catamaran (resplendent with new sails), two Hobie 16 catamarans, a limited number of Sunfish, and the Precision 15 dinghy are available for member recreational sailing. The Waterfront Assistant will be pleased to provide you with a boat and help you rig and launch it. Please sail only within sight of Roton Point so that he can come to your aid in the unlikely event you need it.

Flat Top rides

RPSA will again organize flat top rides on weekend afternoons with suitable tides. This is a great opportunity to enjoy the beauty of Roton Point from the water. Contact the Waterfront Assistant for further information. more...

Life jackets

The wearing of life jackets is mandatory for all taking part in organized RPSA sailing, and highly recommended for all boating activities.
