You Can Make A Difference

YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE AT ROTON POINT!

The Membership Committee would like to encourage our members to give a little back to Roton Point through volunteering time to serve on a committee or the Board of Directors. Although Roton Point has an excellent staff lead by our General Manager member volunteers are what give the Club its particular personality. We want to encourage, especially, some of the members who have recently purchased units to volunteer. New members’ fresh ideas and perspectives are an integral part of Roton Point’s mix. We have a lot of talent among us that could easily be put to work to make Roton even better! Most of the various volunteer opportunities at the Club are manageable. Many committees meet only once a month, and often for only several months out of the year. Some volunteer positions involve planning one social event, and doing this with a friend is welcomed. Listed below are descriptions of several committees including time commitment, meeting days and times, and contact names and numbers. Please review these and see if one would interest you. Whatever you do, please remember that as owners we all share an interest in and responsibility to make Roton Point the best for all of us. It’s our Club and we must all participate to keep it that way!Tennis Committee

In conjunction with the Tennis Director Tom Wright, the Tennis Committee meets to oversee, plan and coordinate the various tennis programs and events. Budgets, calendars and protocol are created for the season’s Interclub and intraclub tournaments for men’s, women’s, junior teams, junior programs and for all tennis social events. The Committee also makes recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding personnel, rule changes, program adjustments and tennis facilities. Committee members are encouraged to sign up to help plan one tennis social event/tournament per summer and volunteer for various jobs such as treasurer, secretary, trophies and operations liaison.

Meetings of the Tennis Committee take place once a month, March through November, from 7:30-9:00 PM in the Hotel conference room. In addition to the hour and a half per month for meetings, committee members can count on a few additional planning hours during the month for their scheduled social event and may also be asked for input on tennis issues via email. Please contact chair, Jim Bradford or the General Manager (838-1606) for further information or to sign up for the committee. .

History Committee

The mission of the History Committee is to preserve and perpetuate the history of Roton Point. The goal is to create an awareness of the attributes of Roton Point from the 1800′s to the present through in-house displays, special events, presentations and publications. Meetings are held the first Wednesday of each month at 7:00 PM in the Hotel conference room.

Members interesting in joining the committee may contact Lisa Grant, Chair, at 866-4200 or the General Manager, at 838-1606 with questions or to sign up for the committee.

Sailing Committee – Roton Point Sailing Association
Due to historical precedent, the Board of RPSA is the de facto Sailing Committee.  It is headed by the Commodore, the Flag Officers being Vice and Rear Commodores, the Fleet Captain, and other volunteer members, including representatives of Roton Point’s large number of kayakers.  Junior Sailing comprises the sailing school, and is run by assistant club manager
John Cross, who reports directly to the General Manager and indirectly to RPSA.  The “Junior Sailing Committee” informally consists of John Cross, a representative from RPSA and whichever parent representatives wish to be involved.

RPSA oversees all waterfront activities in the sailing bay, including member use of club boats, sailboat racing, and flat-top cruises.  It pays particular attention to the safety of all members.  It has overall responsibility for the acquisition and maintenance of all club-owned boats and boating equipment.  It also has overall responsibility for the berthing of all club and member-owned boats, kayaks and other watercraft.  RPSA meets to oversee, plan and coordinate all boating programs and events, including the Annual Fall Multi-hull regatta in September, this year being its 53rd.  In addition to compiling an annual operating budget, RPSA also makes recommendations to the Board of Directors regarding capital expenditures on boats, boating equipment, and waterfront maintenance.

A primary concern of RPSA is what is seen to be the underutilization of the great waterfront asset of the club.  Put another way, how do we get more people out onto the water?  Input from members on this point is always appreciated.

RPSA meets monthly on the first Tuesday of every month (except for some dead-winter months) at 7:30 p.m. in the Hotel conference room. The committee welcomes new members, and offers a standing invitation for any member with an interest in boating or Junior Sailing to attend its meetings.

The committee meets as needed during June, July and August as the slate is formed and culminates with the Introduction of the candidates at the annual “Franks for the Memories” event held on Labor Day weekend. The hours of commitment vary depending on how many candidates need to be developed – possibly six hours total. The committee consists of the current President, immediate past President, Membership chair and volunteers appointed by the President who served on the committee. Interested members may contact the General Manager (838-1606) for further information.
